How to check rims and tires?

When you are buying rims with tires and just want to swap them with your old ones, before you do that, you have to look for a few things beside the quality of both the tires and rims.
The first thing is the lug pattern; most you will find are 4, 5, 6 and 8 lugs, the distance between the lugs is a standard and you will find an illustration in this web site how to measured lug pattern.,
The funny thing I found is that they measured by both Millimeter and inches. Many times I convert from one to another to make sure it is correct, but once you get it, you will realize it is normal to have both millimeter and inches at the same time, because cars and car factories around the world are connected. So make sure the lug pattern is the same that is first thing.
The second thing is the center bore of the rim. It can be measured in inches and Millimeter as well, one time I had a lady came from Pueblo, South of Colorado Springs. I give her all the measurement I have for the set of the tires and the rims over the phone, but she though it will be okay if it just a one Millimeter off. Maybe if it is bigger; but definitely it will not, if it is smaller. Her tires ware almost gone as well, so we tried to swap them for her, and fare enough the center bore is 1 Millimeter smaller than it should. It did not fit. She liked the tires and the rims very much because the tread is excellent, and it is very good deal
She said she will ask some one she knows to make the center bore little bigger, just a hint. She bought them, and was happy with the deal.
The third thing you should look into before you buy a set of wheels and tires together is the offset of the rim that means how far the rim goes inside your car.
Because it might hit the something, so you need enough clearance, this issue, no way around it; but not to put it on your car, rims have to be fit just right.
So start with the lug pattern and go to the center bore then the offset, get your hand on these three things and then, if you are in doubt, put the wheels on your car and try it. If you are buying from individual, just ask the seller, if you may try it first. !
